This week’s promise is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”. Now I’m pretty sure that like me, you’ve probably heard this verse many times. You have probably even heard it more than most other verses. Sometimes I think that we take these words for granted though. For me, this was always just one of those verses that I had to learn to gain a token in my Sunday school class so I could pick a prize at the end of the next class. They were easy words that I heard everywhere. This week, however, they were brought to life in a whole new light for me.
Our God is sovereign and powerful! He could have chosen anything to give us everlasting life with Him but “anything” was not good enough. He loves and cherishes us, YOU and me, so much that He willingly offered up His child. Grasp that…YOU are so special and so worthy in His eyes that only His child was payment worthy enough. I can not imagine giving my child up for the world, let alone giving my child up for the hope that people decided to believe. God did this amazing feat knowing that this didn’t guarantee 100% of us would choose Him. That in itself is astonishing.
My challenge to you this week is to remind yourself that this promise, John 3:16, is more than words to be memorized. It is the ultimate act of love made for you and me.
