Last week, we had the opportunity to lean into Philippians 1:6, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (ESV) As I meditated on this and its context, I began to see something interesting. A lot of folks look at these promises in a passive manner. Unknowingly they take the attitude of “well, if God will do it, then I don’t have to do anything; nothing will change in my mindset or my actions.”
If you go back a verse, you see that Paul is confident in this statement because he sees the action in the lives of the church of Philippi. Verse 5 of this chapter says, “because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” (ESV) The Philippians were not passive in their walk with God. They were actively seeking Him, actively serving Him, actively spreading the Gospel. Will God finish what He has begun? Yes! But he will do so as we are actively seeking Him.
Have you been active in the promises of God, or have you become apathetic and your walk with Him? Take some time today to examine your heart. Ask Holy Spirit to stir in you a new passion and zeal, a new fire, but as He does, take the responsibility of feed that fire and be active in your walk.
